Sunderland stays up with 3-0 win over Everton

SUNDERLAND, England (AP) - Sunderland secured another season in the English Premier League and relegated Norwich and northeast rival Newcastle by beating Everton 3-0 on Wednesday.

Patrick van Aanholt's free kick and two goals by fellow defender Lamine Kone earned Sunderland a comfortable victory at the Stadium of Light, putting the team four points clear of its two relegation rivals with one game remaining.

Sunderland has battled relegation for the past four seasons and survived each time. It can now look forward to a 10th straight year in the Premier League, just as the division begins its new lucrative TV deals worth $12 billion over the next three years.

Van Aanholt scored in the 38th, before Kone came up for corners to score goals in the 42nd and 56th minutes.
