Baseball: Maine West's Kindle tosses 1-hitter against Niles North
Maine West 4, Niles North 1: Sam Kindle allowed a run in the first inning and not much else as host Maine West prevailed in Central Suburban North action.
Kindle threw a complete game 1-hitter, finishing with 8 strikeouts and 2 walks.
Sean Russell doubled and finished with 2 hits, Max Rothweiler also had 2 hits and Nick Stone drove in 2 runs for Maine West (12-11 overall).
Conant 7, Hoffman Estates 5: The visiting Cougars jumped ahead 6-1 after a 5-run fifth inning, and it turned out they needed the cushion as Hoffman Estates rallied late in MSL West play.
Jimmy Brady doubled twice for Conant (14-14, 7-7), and Sam Ryan had a pair of hits.
Matt Mills pitched 6⅔ innings and earned a victory, and Ian Taylor got the final out for Conant.
Lucas Barnes was key to the comeback effort by Hoffman Estates (9-15, 3-12). He hit a solo homer in the sixth inning, then produced a 2-run double as the Hawks scored 3 runs in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Fremd 8, Barrington 2: The host Vikings were able to top the MSL West champs as starter Eric Bennes limited the damage in a complete-game victory.
Bennes allowed 8 hits (six of them singles) while striking out four and walking one.
Fremd leadoff man Charlie Kaye finished 2-for-3 with a double and 2 RBI, and Ethan Hajdukovic went 2-for-4 with a double. Jack Molanr and Troy Hajdukovic also had 2 hits for the Vikes (14-8, 10-5).
Colin Starvel and Tristan Michaels each had doubles for Barrington (22-7, 12-2).
Palatine 3, Schaumburg 2: Anthony Portera's sixth-inning double scored Jake Moertl with the winning run as the visiting Pirates picked up an MSL West victory.
Charlie Van Dyke was the pitcher of record for Palatine (15-13, 9-5). He tossed a complete game, allowing 4 hits and striking out nine.
Danny Schneberger doubled and drove in a run for Palatine, and the Pirates also got doubles from Van Dyke, Matt Lamm and Danny Amato.
Jacob Rintz, Chris Broccolino and Nick Calip had doubles for Schaumburg (11-13, 5-9).
Stevenson 5, St. Viator 1: Five Patriots pitchers combined to limit host St. Viator to 1 hit - a single by Mike Ragauskis - in nonconference play.
Jack Cappalli and Jack Trotter doubled for the Patriots (19-7) and Henry Marchese drove in 2 runs.
Justin Kopech started and pitched 3 innings; he allowed the hit but no runs and earned the victory.
Logan Lavelle, Justin Stark and Bronson Litcher also saw action on the mound before Tyler Pauly got three outs to earn a save.
St. Viator slipped to 15-12 overall.
Hersey 13, Buffalo Grove 0 (5 inn.): The visiting Huskies had a big day with the bats, producing 15 hits in an MSL East victory.
Leading the way for Hersey (11-13, 7-7) with 2 hits each were Brett Harris, Paul Tokar, Tyler Haffey, Luke LaSalvia, Tanner Luke and Zach Blevins. LaSalvia drove in 3 runs, while Luke and Tokar had 2 RBI apiece.
Luke also got the victory after allowing 1 hit with 5 walks and 2 strikeouts.
Chase Marsh had the lone hit for Buffalo Grove (11-15, 6-8).
Rolling Meadows 5, Wheeling 4: The visiting Wildcats took a 4-3 lead after scoring twice in the top of the sixth inning, but the Mustangs responded with two of their own in the bottom half and held on in the seventh inning in MSL East play.
Christian Hubbard finished 3-for-4 with a double for Wheeling (11-18, 2-12), while Rolling Meadows improved to 5-19 overall and 5-9 in the East.
