Olympic wrestling body strips Rio entries in meldonium cases

CORSIER-SUR-VEVEY, Switzerland (AP) - Wrestling's governing body has stripped Olympic places from countries whose athletes tested positive for meldonium at qualifying tournaments.

United World Wrestling says the United States and India are among teams gaining extra places in Rio de Janeiro Olympic lineups.

In the men's 65-kilogram freestyle class, Armenia and the U.S. now qualify athletes after wrestlers from Poland and Ukraine tested positive at a European tournament in Serbia.

In the 125-kilo class, Bulgaria and Kyrgyzstan replace Ukraine and Belarus.

India gained qualifying places in 85-kilo Greco-Roman and 53-kilo women's classes after doping cases for Kyrgyzstan and Mongolia, respectively.

In 58-kilo women's wrestling, Moldova gets Ukraine's entry.

Meldonium, a heart medication banned in sports since Jan. 1, is the drug Russian tennis player Maria Sharapova tested positive for at the Australian Open.
