New Mexico State's Weir adds Henson as an Aggie adviser
LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP) - New Mexico State basketball coach Paul Weir has added former Aggie and Illinois basketball coach Lou Henson as a special adviser.
Weir said in a news release Tuesday that he saw the chance to tap Henson's 41 years of experience as a one-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
Henson said that after talking with Weir he believes he and the new Aggies coach share similar views on basketball, coaching and recruiting.
The 84-year-old Henson was inducted to the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame in November.
He retired in 2005 after going 779-412 as a coach.
Henson is also a graduate of New Mexico State. He and his wife, Mary, divide their time between Las Cruces, New Mexico, and Champaign, Illinois.
