Museum seeks donations for cameras after Lincoln theft

KANKAKEE, Ill. (AP) - The Kankakee County Museum is seeking donations to help pay for security cameras after the theft last year of a sculpture of Abraham Lincoln's hand.

The (Kankakee) Daily Journal reports (http://bit.ly/1TQBFI4 ) that an anonymous donor has offered to pay half the $8,900 cost for 16 cameras if others put up the rest. Donations can be made by calling the museum.

The plaster study by George Grey Barnard was taken sometime in early December. Museum Director Connie Licon says the FBI has been investigating, but no suspects have been announced and the piece remains missing.

Barnard was born two years before Lincoln's assassination, and the 16th president was the subject of a lot of his work. He grew up in Kankakee, where the museum has a room dedicated to his work.
