Man pleads guilty to 2012 shooting of Chicago police officer

CHICAGO (AP) - A man accused in the 2012 wounding of a Chicago police officer has pleaded guilty to attempted murder charges.

Paris Sadler pleaded guilty Wednesday to shooting Del Pearson as the officer was chasing him down a South Side alley. Pearson and other officers had stopped to question Sadler and others for a possible curfew violation.

Sadler's lawyers argued his arrest should be quashed and evidence, including a handgun, should not be allowed at trial because they were obtained during an illegal search of Sadler's home. A judge ruled the evidence admissible.

Cook County prosecutor Joseph Lattanzio was fired in September for testifying he had made no changes to a statement he took from Sadler's mother the day after the shooting. A recording contradicted his claim.

The 24-year-old Sadler will be sentenced Thursday.
