Embattled CPS principal details charges against him
Embattled Chicago Public Schools Principal Troy LaRaviere says CPS is moving to fire him for failing in part to fill out paperwork needed to evaluate his teachers which he considered a waste of time and which did not create more effective teachers.
LaRaviere revealed the charges for the first time at a news conference Thursday.
The former highly lauded principal of Blaine Elementary School in the Lake View neighborhood, who has been a vocal critical of Mayor Rahm Emanuel, said he was told by his supervisor that failing to fill out the paperwork would result in a lower personnel evaluation for him, but not termination.
Now that LaRaviere is running to head an association of CPS principals, that charge has been elevated to grounds for termination, he said.
"When I was a lone voice, the administration tolerated me," he said during a lengthy speech. "But when faced with the prospect of an organized group of education leaders speaking as one on behalf of students, they moved with haste and reckless abandon to prevent that from happening."
He contended the Emanuel administration is concerned about him leading that group since he has promised to give principals a bigger voice in how schools are run.
