Boys water polo: Top seeds Fremd, Barrington roll through first sectional round

Seniors Dylan Assmann (7 goals), Robert DePau (6) and Alex Nicholas (5) powered top sectional seed Fremd into the semifinals with a 25-4 victory over Schaumburg in boys water polo.
Fremd (23-6), the sectional host, meets Prospect in Friday's 5 p.m. semifinal.
Schaumburg wraps up its season with a record of 6-21.
• MSL East third-place finisher Prospect (15-13) rolled past St. Viator 16-4 to earn a spot against Fremd in the semis.
• Second-seeded Barrington eliminated Elk Grove with a 17-9 decision. The Broncos (26-5) will face Conant in Friday's 6 p.m. semifinal.
• Conant, the No. 3 seed at Fremd, ousted Rolling Meadows 13-2. Conant improved to 15-15 while Meadows ends its season at 7-16.
• In the Buffalo Grove sectional, fourth-seeded McHenry (15-10) advanced to a semifinal matchup with Stevenson by outlasting fifth-seeded Palatine 15-13.
Seniors Ivan Turkan (6 goals) and Jake Conrad (17 blocks, 3 steals) led the way for Palatine (8-22). Senior Marcus Carter-Buckman and junior T.J. May both had 2 goals, senior Alex Adame scored once and junior Dylan White scored twice and drew 7 ejections.
McHenry's effort was led by Kevin Braun and Jackson Smith with 6 goals apiece.
• In a matchup of the top two finishers in the Mid-Suburban East, Wheeling advanced with a 10-6 victory over Buffalo Grove.
The Wildcats (20-10) got 5 goals from Nate Reiff and 4 from Jake Noel, while Brandon Monsen scored twice for Buffalo Grove (17-15).
Wheeling meets Mundelein in Friday's 6 p.m. semifinal.
