Girls water polo: Schaumburg, Elk Grove and BG advance in sectional play
Schaumburg's girls water polo team extended its season with a 13-4 victory over Hoffman Estates in first round play of the Fremd sectional Tuesday.
Hannah Pearson (6 goals) and Brianna Vasquez led the scoring effort for the eighth-seeded Saxons, and Rebecca Kasner scored twice.
Schaumburg (10-14) will meet top-seeded Fremd in the quarterfinals at 5 p.m. Thursday.
Hoffman Estates (12-19) got all four of its goals from senior Jenny Fermaintt.
• Elk Grove produced a 12-1 victory against St. Viator in first-round Fremd sectional play.
Senior all-conference choice Lilly Lawrin led the scoring effort with 5 goals and also contributed 3 assists and 3 steals. Other key performers for the seventh-seeded Grenadiers included Alyssa Rosenorn (3 goals, 1 assist, 2 steals), Hannah Sallenback (2 goals, 2 assists, 3 steals) and Kaylee Hatfield (1 goal, 2 assists, 4 steals).
Elk Grove (11-17) meets No. 2 seed Barrington in quarterfinal play at 7 p.m. Thursday.
• Buffalo Grove earned a quarterfinal spot in the sectional it is hosting by defeating Wheeling 7-4.
The eighth-seeded Bison outscored Wheeling 5-2 in the second half.
Buffalo Grove (10-17) next meets top seed Stevenson at 5 p.m. Thursday.
