IU fires lecturer over alleged sexual assault of student
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) - Indiana University has fired a senior lecturer in the Jacobs School of Music for allegedly sexually assaulting a student.
IU says it fired Guo Ping Wang on Friday after placing him on leave March 28 when it received a report of the assault. IU said Monday it shared the findings of its investigation with Wang and the student last week. IU spokesman Mark Land says Wang has 10 days to appeal his dismissal, and he says Wang has retained an attorney.
IU has reported the assault to campus police.
Land says Wang, who was trained in ballet, has been a senior lecturer since 2014 and became a full-time lecturer in 2007.
Wang's home telephone number rang busy Monday and he could not be reached for comment.
