Summer camps connect kids and nature

Citizens for Conservation Naturalists camps are a great way for kids to start the summer - and there are still spots available.

Beginning Naturalist's Camp will be from 9-11:30 a.m. June 6-10. Preschoolers will hike, make nature crafts, learn about trees and flowers, and more. Each day, campers will learn about a specific nature topic and will hear stories and draw pictures of what they see. Participants must be ages 4 or 5 years old.

Junior Naturalist's Camp will be from 9-11:30 a.m. June 13-17. It offers children ages 7-10 more in-depth science topics and a chance to learn about prairie and wetland ecosystems. Campers will record data, sketch observations and make nature-friendly crafts.

Both camps are held at CFC headquarters, 459 W. Route 22, Barrington, and will be held rain or shine. Children should dress for the weather and bring a snack and beverage.

Camp fee is $100 for CFC members; $150 for nonmembers. Registration forms are on CFC's website at www.citizensforconservation.org. Register early, as each camp is limited to 12 participants.
