Indiana's bicentennial celebrations will include bison art
VINCENNES, Ind. (AP) - Indiana's oldest city and other Hoosier communities are getting bison sculptures for the state's bicentennial celebration in a nod to the state's official seal.
A fiberglass bison sculpture that arrived in Vincennes in February will soon be painted a bright blue by Vincennes University art students and festooned with images of the region's farms and historic structures.
The Vincennes Sun-Commercial reports (http://bit.ly/1WdtnO0 ) the 5-foot-tall bison is slated to be unveiled on May 20 when the Indiana Constitution arrives for a two-week exhibit in Vincennes. The Wabash River city bills itself as Indiana's oldest city.
Each Indiana county will get at least one bison sculpture on display until the end of the year. Indiana's state's seal includes an image of a jumping bison, a pioneer felling a tree.
