Elgin Lion Bill Klawitter receives George Lazansky Award

At its regular meeting on May 3, the Governor of Lions District 1-J, Bob Fowler, presented Elgin Lion Club member Bill Klawitter with the George Lazansky Distinguished Service Award.

District 1-J is the home district of Lions International's headquarters, it is part of Multiple District 1 and comprises of Lions, Lioness and Leo clubs throughout the counties of Kane, DuPage, DeKalb and parts of Cook counties. Men and women of these clubs serve with pride helping their communities and others throughout the world.

The George Lazansky award is given to district Lions for their outstanding contributions to Lionism at any of a variety of levels in the Lions organization.

Lion Klawitter has taken over the duties of president this past year when the elected president moved from the area and none of the vice presidents could perform the task. He also has served as elected president of the club for two previous terms. He has worked hard to make sure that school children in Elgin Area School District U-46 have adequate eye care, and he has organized efforts to collect funds for the eradication of the scourge of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. He was instrumental in establishing the Elgin Lions Club Foundation which will make it easier for donors to contribute to the various charities of the club and Lions International.
