Lake Zurich woman killed in Volo accident

A pedestrian killed early Thursday while crossing Route 12 in Volo has been identified as a 22-year-old Lake Zurich woman.

An autopsy Friday revealed that Stephanie V. Kostenko died from multiple injuries after the crash at 2:30 a.m., Det. Christopher Covelli of the Lake County Sheriff's Office said.

He said the accident remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff Technical Crash Unit. No charges have been filed.

Police said Kostenko was crossing Route 12 just south of Route 120 when she was hit by a 2008 Ford Mustang traveling south. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

He said it remains unclear where she had been and where she was going.
