Driver of truck that dragged dog to death faces 10 charges

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP) - Authorities have filed 10 charges against the driver of a pickup truck that dragged a dog for more than 5 miles, killing the animal.

The Evansville Courier & Press reports (http://bit.ly/23viXsc ) 24-year-old Brandyn Cox of Evansville was arrested Thursday night in Mount Vernon, about 20 miles west of Evansville.

He faces four counts alleging animal cruelty, single counts of intimidation and attempted interference with reporting a crime, and four counts of being a habitual offender.

Authorities say a Great Dane mix named Hank had been tied to the truck's rear bumper Tuesday by 44-year-old Jamie L. McFarland after the dog urinated and defecated inside his mobile home. McFarland was arrested Wednesday and faces a preliminary charge of animal cruelty.

Online court records do not show attorneys for Cox or McFarland.
