Cake auction in Barrington raises money to fight cancer

The annual Norton's U.S.A. Live Auction Cake Sale on Saturday raised money for Barrington Relay For Life, the American Cancer Society fundraiser.

Participants donate freshly baked cakes, which are then auctioned. The event has grown each year, raising $1,900 for the cause in 2013, $2,600 in 2014 and $4,320 last year. This year's total wasn't immediately available.

The Barrington Relay For Life starts at 5 p.m. Friday, June 10, at Barrington High School, 616 W. Main St. So far, 20 teams have pledged more than $30,000 for the event.
