Naperville must spend $2.5M on handicap accessibility

NAPERVILLE, Ill. (AP) - The city of Naperville says work needed to make nearly two dozen city-owned properties compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act will cost $2.5 million.

The Naperville Sun reports (http://trib.in/1TlXlJB ) that the work is needed to meet federal updates passed in 2010.

A review of city buildings and facilities found more than 1,900 shortcomings, but noted that such a number is common for a community with as many buildings as Naperville.

The report says most of the modifications are minor. They include things like raising or lowering handles, securing entryway mats and modifying signs.
