Girls soccer: Bahlmann's scoring does the trick for Vernon Hills

Becky Bahlmann scored a hat trick, and Vernon Hills' girls soccer team remained undefeated in the North Suburban Prairie Division with a 4-2 win over Grant on Saturday.

Alex Ludolph had a goal and an assist for the Cougars (7-6-1, 4-0-1), who will play for the NSC Prairie championship on Tuesday when they host Wauconda.

Erin Vandemerkt and Julia Neary also had assists for Vernon Hills. The game was tied 2-2 at halftime.

"We came out very strong in the first 10, and then I thought we struggled for a bit in the second part of the first half," Cougars coach Mike McCaulou said. "But, as we have done before in games, the ladies found a way to battle and show resilience. Conditions were tough for both teams, and Grant was a good physical test. We are happy that we have put ourselves in a position next week to win our side of the NSC. We need to play for a full 80 and stay confident."

Grant got unassisted goals from Grace Bujan and Brianne Barnes.

Lake Zurich 1, Prairie Ridge 1: The visiting Bears got a first-half goal from Madeline Blasko, assisted by Alexa Juarez.

Goalkeeper Madison Hart made 7 saves for Lake Zurich (9-4-3) in the nonconference match.

Grayslake North 2, Wauconda 1: Lauren Davis scored twice, as the Knights won the nonconference match to hand the Bulldogs their first loss.

Davis scored less than two minutes into the match off a pass from Morgan Lyon and converted a penalty kick early in the second half.

Grayslake North improved to 11-4-2.

"We started the game brightly and never really looked back," Knights coach Adam DeCaluwe said. "Our girls worked hard right from the start to put (Wauconda) under pressure and keep them locked into their half."

Kayla Wisniewski scored with about two minutes left off an assist from Erica Miller for Wauconda (10-1-2).

"It is our first loss of the season, so we have a lot to take away from this game," Bulldogs coach Beau Shogren said. "Grayslake North played well and got the best of us. Our keeper Jill Rejczyk played well. She was very active."
