Softball: Guercio hits No. 8 as Lake Zurich rolls
Amanda Guercio hit her eighth home run of the season, doubled and drove in 4 runs, as Lake Zurich's softball team beat visiting Round Lake 16-1 in a North Suburban Conference crossover that lasted five innings on Thursday.
Jessica Puccinelli finished 3-for-4 with a double, stolen base and 3 RBI for the Bears. Both Guercio and Sarah Schnecker were 2-for-3. The Bears' other offensive contributors included Emily Hunt (1-for-1, 2 runs, 2 RBI), Mackenzie Brinn (2 RBI) and Melissa Goldberg (1-for-1, 2 walks, 2 RBI).
Lindsey DeLuga went the distance in the circle for Lake Zurich, allowing 5 hits, striking out four and walking one.
Round Lake got a home run from Brianna Negrette. Alexis Cordova was 2-for-3 for the Panthers.
Antioch 12, Stevenson 2: Ashley Stephens (2 runs) and Megan Lawrence (2 RBI, 2 runs) both went 3-for-4 for the visiting Sequoits in the North Suburban crossover, which lasted five innings.
Piper Foote homered and was 2-for-2 with 2 RBI and 2 runs scored for Antioch (16-6). Jill Foote and Jacklyn Geraty (2 RBI) were both 2-for-4. Geraty and Katie Sorenson doubled.
Stephanie Bonaguidi earned the win, pitching 4 innings. She allowed 3 singles, walked four and struck out three.
Grant 3, Zion-Benton 2: Calista Warmowski went 2-for-4, as the visiting Bulldogs won the North Suburban crossover.
Erin Bengston was 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI for Grant. Sydney Goessele earned the win in the circle, allowing just 5 hits in her 7 innings pitched. She struck out five and didn't walk a batter.
Jacobs 10, Grayslake North 8: The Knights lost the Fox Valley Conference game on a walk-off grand slam by catcher Jessica Mrzlak.
Grayslake North hosted the game but was considered the visiting team.
Dani Runyon went 6 innings for the Knights and gave up 3 earned runs to go along with 6 strikeouts. Knights freshman Grace Brown went 3-for-4 with 2 RBI and her fifth home run of the season. She finished a single shy of the cycle. Rebecca Sosa hit her fourth blast of the year.
Brown, Jenna Pozezinski and Jessica Vaughn all contributed doubles.
Crystal Lake South 6, Grayslake Central 5: Teagan Truskowski went 3-for-4 with an RBI for the Rams in their Fox Valley Conference loss.
Reagen Radke suffered the loss, despite not allowing an earned run in her 6 innings pitched. She allowed 5 hits and 2 walks, while striking out nine. Radke also went 1-for-2 with a double and 2 walks.
Morgan Smigielski was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI for Grayslake Central.
