Baseball: St. Patrick handles St. Viator
St. Patrick 13, St. Viator 3 (6 inn.): Visiting St. Viator couldn't slow up the East Suburban Catholic Conference baseball leaders on Monday.
St. Patrick got a pair of triples from Trevor Heinlein and a 4-for-4 plate effort from Ryan Gillespie in a 13-3, 6-inning victory.
Dan Sullivan went 2-for-3 and drove in 2 of the runs for St. Viator (10-10).
Leyden 16, Morton 7: Matt Ozanic homered and doubled as the Eagles produced 18 hits in a West Suburban Gold triumph.
Adrian Perez doubled and finished 3-for-4 with 5 RBI for Leyden (9-9). Other big hitters included Michael Wilms (2-for-3), Jeremy Borges (2-for-3, double), Robert Wisniewski (3-for-5, double) and Josh Cubon (2-for-5, double, 2 RBI).
MSL update: Evening storms prevented all of the six Mid-Suburban League games scheduled for Monday from being completed.
Most will try again on Tuesday, starting from scratch at 4:30 p.m. with new games.
Barrington (13-6), Palatine (10-8) and Fremd (9-3) are tied for the Mid-Suburban West lead with 5-1 records.
In the MSL East, Elk Grove (11-6, 5-1) is the leader, with Buffalo Grove (8-8, 4-2) in second and Prospect (11-4, 3-3) in third.
Before the storms came Monday:
• The visiting Cougars were leading 12-5 in the top of the fourth inning at Fremd.
Charlie Kaye had doubled and homered for Fremd while Jimmy Brady, Ryan Roberts, Jim McLaughlin, Logan Smith and Nick Roberts all had 2 hits for Conant.
• Wheeling was leading 4-2 at Prospect, with the Wildcats' Brian Maloney already having picked up a pair of hits and an RBI.
• Elk Grove was winning 6-0 at Hersey in the fourth inning. Christian Camacho had gone 2-for-2 for the Grens, and Jonathan Maday was working on a 3-hit shutout.
• Schaumburg and host Hoffman Estates were tied at 5-5 in the fourth inning. Both teams had produced a 4-run inning.
