Utah student wins $100,000 for tuition at football game

PROVO, Utah (AP) - A Brigham Young University student won $100,000 for his tuition during a football game on Saturday.

The Daily Herald reports (http://bit.ly/21aVo8v ) that Luke Newey won as part of a halftime football toss competition during the Big Ten championship game. He defeated fellow Dr. Pepper Tuition Giveaway finalist John Wondergem, a student at Michigan State University, by throwing 18 footballs through his target.

Wondergem, who made 14 tosses, took home $20,000 in scholarship money.

Newey is studying engineering at BYU. To make it to the final football toss, he submitted a video in which he said his goal was to help people in poverty. That video helped him secure enough votes to compete in the halftime challenge.
