Baseball: Kimpler connects twice for Libertyville

Ben Kimpler crushed 2 home runs, finished with 3 hits overall and drove in 5 runs to lead Libertyville to an 18-1, five-inning nonconference win against Rockford East on Saturday.

The Wildcats out-hit Rockford East 14-2.

Dan Marks went 2-for-2 with a double and 5 RBI for Libertyville.

Winning pitcher Caleb Haddon rolled up 9 strikeouts and didn't walk any batters over four innings.

Wauconda 11, Hononegah 3: Collin Schrader had 2 home runs, including a grand slam, to lead Wauconda.

Brian McFarland added a 3-run home run.

Corey Soetart got the win on the mound.

Carmel splits: In an East Suburban Catholic Conference doubleheader, Carmel split with Benet, 7-6, 4-7.

Liam Evans laid down a bunt in the bottom of the seventh to give the Corsairs the win in Game 1. Evans finished the day with 3 RBI.

Connor Pett and Cooper Johnson each added 2 hits for the Corsairs.

In the second game, Johnson and Connor Pett each had doubles for Carmel.

Prairie Ridge 8, Grayslake Central 3: Kyle Allen had 2 hits, including a double, for Grayslake Central.

Lake Zurich 1, Schaumburg 0: Pitcher Ben Cornelius went the distance to lead Lake Zurich. He had 6 strikeouts and gave up just 2 walks.

Nick Sanders led the Bears' offense with 2 hits, including a double.

Mundelein 11, Lakes 1: Reed Rubio, Brett Parola, Drew Breitenreiter and Brendan Murphy each had 2 hits for Mundelein, which rolled up 12 hits overall.

Winning pitcher Wil Michalski finished with 9 strikeouts over five innings.

For Lakes, Max Swiatek had a team-leading 2 hits.

Mundelein is now 13-6 on the season.

Lakes drops to 8-8.

Grant 3, Bradford 0: Winning pitcher Nick Burgess finished with 7 strikeouts over five innings for Grant, which moves to 12-7.

Ben Kusiak led the Grant offense with 2 hits, including a double.

Harvest Christian 9, Round Lake 5: Round Lake out-hit Harvest Christian 11-9 but couldn't pull out the win. The Panthers' 5 errors certainly didn't help their cause.

Javier Gonzalez and Ben Graff each had 3 hits for Round Lake while Shane Gonka and Christian Eng each added 2 hits.
