Baseball: Another rally, another victory for Palatine

Palatine came from behind for a second straight day, this time scoring 5 runs in the top of the seventh inning to earn a 10-6 Mid-Suburban League baseball victory at Buffalo Grove on Friday.

Charlie Van Dyke, Danny Schneberger and Zach Oles had doubles and Matt Lamm tripled for Palatine (10-7, 5-1).

Danny Amato came up big near the bottom of the order, finishing 2-for-4 with 2 RBI.

Brent Penrose earned the win in relief, and Chris Refka picked up a save with 1 scoreless inning.

Buffalo Grove (8-7, 4-2) had 2 hits apiece from Joey Pinakidis (including a double), Ben Moran and Chase Marsh (2 RBI).

Bison starter Jack Vaselaney gave up 7 hits in 6⅔ innings, but the Bison committed 6 errors.

Palatine remains in a tie for the MSL West lead with Barrington and Fremd after all three won their games Friday.

Elk Grove 5, Schaumburg 1: The Christian Camacho show continued, as Elk Grove's senior right-hander struck out 14 to help the Grenadiers take over first place in the MSL East.

At the plate, Camacho went 2-for-4. Both hits were doubles, and he drove in 3 runs.

On the mound, Camacho fired 66 of his 81 pitches for strikes, and 23 of the 27 hitters he faced saw first-pitch strikes.

AJ Navarro went 3-for-3 with a double for Elk Grove (9-5, 5-1), and Joe Lopez and Ryan Uehara also doubled.

Jack Bellinger finished 3-for-3 with a double for Schaumburg (9-6, 3-3). Saxons starter Andrew Ralston gave up 7 hits.

Barrington 5, Hersey 0: Broncos starter Jake Zyzda was dominant again, this time tossing a complete game 4-hitter with 7 strikeouts and 1 walk.

Colin Starvel doubled and finished 3-for-4 in the leadoff spot for Barrington (13-5, 5-1), and Tristan Michaels, Jacob Chapman and Blake Swanson each had 2 hits.

Host Hersey slipped to 4-10 overall and 2-4 in the MSL East.

Conant 7, Prospect 6: The host Knights scored twice in the bottom of the sixth and twice again in the seventh before coming up a run short in MSL action.

Ryan Roberts finished 3-for-4 with and Logan Smith had 2 hits for the Cougars (7-10, 2-4).

Jim McLaughlin earned a win and Ian Taylor got three outs to net a save. McLaughlin helped his mound effort by doubling and driving in a run.

Trevor Engquist doubled twice for Prospect (10-4, 3-3), and Grant Whitebloom finished 3-for-3 with a double while Ryan Howe and Ryan Molini had 2 hits apiece.

Hoffman Estates 7, Wheeling 4: Collectively, the Kultons were crushing it.

Hoffman Estates' Ryan and Luke Kulton were quite a tandem at the plate, combining for 5 hits, 4 RBI and 3 runs scored.

On the mound? Same story.

Ryan was the winning pitcher after allowing 3 runs in 5 innings, and Luke earned a save after allowing 1 run over 2 innings.

Luke had 3 doubles and 3 RBI to lead the Hawks (6-8, 1-5) offensively, and Marc Gonzales hit a home run.

Wheeling (6-11, 1-5) got a 3-hit effort, including a double and a triple, from Alex Khatcherian. He scored 2 runs and drove in 1.

Fremd 10, Rolling Meadows 0 (5 inn.): The visiting Vikings kept their share of the MSL West lead with a 3-hitter from Jared Swenson and a balanced offensive effort which produced runs in every inning.

Ethan Hajdukovic and Justin Castillo doubled for Fremd (8-3, 5-1), and Tommy Josten and Jack Molnar both had 2 hits.

Jack Lincoln had a double for the Mustangs (0-13, 0-6).

Glenbard West 6, St. Viator 5: The visiting Lions jumped ahead with a 4-run fifth inning, but the Hilltoppers answered with a 5-run effort in the bottom half of the inning and maintained their 1-run edge the rest of the way in a nonconference matchup.

Cole Kmet doubled and had 2 hits for St. Viator (10-7), and Jack Coney and Tim Alfonso also had 2 hits apiece.

DePaul College Prep 15, Maine West 3 (5 inn.): The visitors banged out 9 hits and took advantage of 3 errors to pick up a nonconference win over the Warriors (7-8).
