Mundelein man identified as Itasca crash victim

The motorcyclist who died Thursday afternoon in Itasca after hitting a landscaping truck and trailer has been identified as a Mundelein man.

Abdullah Ilahi, 24, was fatally injured in the 4 p.m. crash at Thorndale Avenue and Park Boulevard in the construction zone of the Elgin-O'Hare Expressway.

Ilahi was taken to Alexian Brothers Medical Center in Elk Grove Village, but he couldn't be saved.

A second, unidentified motorcyclist traveling with him wasn't injured.

Itasca police Lt. Rob Pokorny urged drivers to use caution when driving through the construction area.

"It's forever changing. That's the problem. And drivers are going way too fast," Pokorny said. "The same drivers may be driving the same road, but workers may be adding an exit or taking an exit away. It's going to keep doing that all summer long."
