Motorcyclist dies in Itasca crash
A motorcyclist died Thursday afternoon in Itasca after hitting a landscaping truck and trailer, fire officials said.
The crash happened just after 4 p.m. at Thorndale and Park Boulevard in the construction zone of the Elgin-O'Hare Expressway, Itasca Lt. Rob Pokorny said. A second motorcyclist traveling with the driver wasn't injured, he said.
"The other rider put his bike on the ground, that's why it looked like there were two (motorcycles involved in the crash)," Pokorny said.
The injured motorcyclist was taken to Alexian Brothers, where he was pronounced dead.
Pokorny urged drivers to use caution when driving through that construction area.
"It's forever changing. That's the problem. And drivers are going way too fast," he said. "The same drivers may be driving the same road, but workers may be adding an exit or taking an exit away. It's going to keep doing that all summer long."
