Sassuolo misses late penalty in 0-0 draw with 10-man Samp

ROME (AP) - Seventh-place Sassuolo was held to a 0-0 draw by 10-man Sampdoria in Serie A on Wednesday after failing to convert a late penalty.

Goalkeeper Emiliano Viviano leapt to his left to stop Domenico Berardi's low spot-kick one minute from the end.

Viviano also made several other impressive saves after defender Andrea Ranocchia was sent off with two yellow cards midway through the first half.

With 49 points and four matches remaining, Sassuolo matched its record for Serie A from last season when it finished 12th.

Sampdoria moved seven points clear of the relegation zone in 14th place.

Later, Italian league leader Juventus was hosting Lazio and third-place Roma was facing Torino.
