Southern Indiana man gets 28 years for killing wife

PAOLI, Ind. (AP) - A southern Indiana man has been sentenced to 28 years for killing his wife whose burnt remains were found behind the couple's home.

Fifty-year-old Jeffrey Fulton rural Paoli (pay-OH'-lee) was sentenced Monday after pleading guilty to voluntary manslaughter in the 2014 slaying of 34-year-old Michelle Fulton.

Jeffrey Fulton was arrested in October 2014 after human remains were found in a burn pit near his residence south of Paoli. His wife had been reported missing the previous June.

The (Bedford) Times-Mail (http://bit.ly/1MIBgrG ) reports one of the victim's two children said Jeffrey Fulton hit the victim over the head with a frying pan. The child said Fulton then built a large fire near a pond and the child, believing the mother was in the fire, went inside the family's home and cried.
