Kane County Cougars earn shutout win

The Kane County Cougars (8-4) bounced back from Monday night's loss to pick up a 3-0 victory over the Beloit Snappers (7-6) on Tuesday afternoon at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark.

It was the Cougars who broke through the scoreless tie in the third. Galli Cribbs led off with a line-drive single to center field, followed by a Matt McPhearson single to put runners on the corners. McPhearson advanced to second on a groundout before an single from Zach Nehrir scored both runners for a 2-0 Cougars lead.

The Cougars added an insurance run in the seventh when Josh Anderson led off with a line drive to left field, eventually coming around to score on a McPhearson sacrifice fly to give the Cougars the final run of the day.

In his first home start, Alex Young (1-0) picked up his first victory of the season. The Hawthorn Woods native pitched 5 innings, giving up 2 hits with 3 strikeouts. Kane County chased Beloit starter Angel Duno (0-1) after 4 innings, during which he gave up 2 runs and 4 hits.

The Cougars and Snappers wrap up the series Wednesday. The matchup will feature right-hander Dustin Driver (0-1) for Beloit against the Cougars' Carlos Hernandez (1-0). First pitch from Fifth Third Bank Ballpark is scheduled for 11 a.m.
