Muncie cops asks outside agency to assist in shooting probe

MUNCIE, Ind. (AP) - Muncie's police chief has asked Indiana State Police to assist in investigating a fatal shooting involving a police officer.

Police say 26-year-old Storm Allen Smith was fatally shot Friday evening during a struggle with a city police officer near railroad tracks in east Muncie. Muncie Police Chief Steve Stewart says the officer had responded to a report of a man making threats around 7:40 p.m.

Stewart said it is important that an outside agency participate in the investigation. The results will be turned over to Delaware County Prosecutor Jeffrey Arnold, who will then decide whether the shooting was justified.

The Star Press (http://tspne.ws/23HyVoy ) reports that the officer has been placed on administrative leave pending completion of the investigation.
