Softball: Powerful showing from Carmel against Stevenson

Dani DeLozier and Jordan Swiatkowski each hit a 2-run homer in the first inning and finished 3-for-3 as Carmel Catholic's softball team earned a 10-0, 5-inning victory over Stevenson on Monday in nonconference play.

Swiatkowski also belted a solo home run, while DeLozier had 5 RBI on the day. Taylor Ganan was 1-for-2 with an RBI double for Carmel (10-4).

Claire Petrus earned the complete-game win, striking out five, walking two and allowing 2 hits.

Warren 14, Lake Forest 6: The Blue Devils improved to 4-1 in the North Suburban Lake Division.

Grant 6, Lakes 3: Megan Champman had 2 hits, including a double, to lead Grant, which rolled up 11 hits.

Freshman Calista Warmowski and Keyana Linbo each had 2 hits as well.

Winning pitcher Hannah McCall went the distance.

For Lakes, which had 10 hits, freshman Camryn Jones led the way with 3 hits while Rachel Becker and Jen Reed added 2 hits apiece.

Woodstock 4, Grayslake North 3: Freshman Grace Brown smacked 2 home runs but it wasn't enough for Grayslake North.

The Knights had 4 errors.Lauren Olsen added 2 hits for the Knights.

Grayslake Central 1, Woodstock North 0: In a tight pitching duel, Grayslake Central come out on top on a pass ball in the seventh inning with two outs.

Winning pitcher Reagen Radke rolled up 12 strikeouts and gave up just 2 hits for the Rams.

Teagan Truskowski had a team-leading 2 hits for Grayslake Central.

Wauconda 19, Round Lake 1: Freshman Kayla Serio pitched a five-inning no-hitter, striking out 9 and walking 1 batter to lead Wauconda.

Kayla Wedl went 4-for-4 at the plate with 2 doubles for the Bulldogs while Taylor McCarthy went 3-for-4.

Serio, Sarah Ricci and Taylor Lambert each had 2 hits.

Wauconda improves to 7-4.

For Round Lake, Charla Ryan had a hit and 2 stolen bases.

Vernon Hills sweeps: Vernon Hills swept a doubleheader against North Chicago, 10-0, 15-2.

In the finale, Jessica Salerno, Mackenzie Mahler and Samantha Saliba each had 3 hits for the Cougars.

Lake Zurich 6, Mundelein 5: Jessica Puccinelli and Melissa Goldberg each had 2 hits for the Bears.

Winning pitcher Lindsey DeLuga held off Mundelein in the seventh inning.

Mundelein got 2 hits from both Carly Busscher and Allison Lambert.

Lake Zurich is now 3-7 on the season and 2-2 in the North Suburban Lake.
