Des Plaines Fire Department visits Creative Corners Preschool

The Des Plaines Park District's Creative Corners Preschool welcomed firefighters from the Des Plaines Fire Department on April 13 and 14. The kids were very excited to sit behind the wheel of a fire truck, walk through an ambulance, and learn about many of the firefighter gadgets.

Engineer Jeff Gove was on hand both days and talked to the preschoolers about fire safety. He quizzed the children about fire safety and he was pleased to see that the 3-5 year-olds had a keen knowledge on what to do and what not to do in the case of a fire emergency.

"We have been learning about fire safety in the classroom," explained Terrific 3's Preschool Director Susan Poklop, "what a wonderful opportunity for the children to meet real-life firefighters."

Registration is in progress for the 2016/17 Creative Corners Preschool year. An open house is scheduled for 10 a.m.-noon on Saturday, April 23, at the Administrative and Leisure Center, 2222 Birch St., in Des Plaines. Creative Corners meets twice a week, Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday with the option of adding Friday. The Terrific 3's meet 9:30 a.m. to noon; the Fantastic 4's and 5's meet from 9 to noon. Weekly study units gently prepare the children for their future educational career by encouraging small and large motor skills, literacy and socialization skills.
