Sweden's Madelene Sagstrom wins Symetra Tour event

FORT MYERS, Fla. (AP) - Madelene Sagstrom won the Chico's Patty Berg Memorial on Sunday at Cypress Lake for her first Symetra Tour title, and Lorie Kane took the Legends Tour event.

The 23-year-old Sagstrom, the Southeastern Conference player of the year last season at LSU, closed with a 3-over 75 in strong wind for a one-stroke victory. She earned $30,000 to take the season money lead with $52,914, breaking the $50,000 mark in a tour-record three events.

"I feel so good at the moment," Sagstrom said. "I had such a great time on the golf course today. It was definitely tough, but we played pretty well and I had such a good time."

Sagstrom finished at 9-under 279 after opening with rounds of 69, 66 and 69. She birdied Nos. 15 and 16, bogeyed the par-3 17th and tapped in for par on the par-4 18th.

"This is a receipt to myself that says I can do it," Sagstrom said. "When the final putt rolled in, it was a sigh of relief and I was like, 'I got it done.' ... I used to not like playing in the wind. Today, when I woke up I was like, 'This is the perfect day, because it is the perfect challenge to see if I can go out there and do it or not.'"

Last season, Giulia Molinaro was the first to reach $50,000, accomplishing the feat in the 15th event.

Germany's Sophia Popov was second after a 73. Thailand's Sherman Santiwiwatthanaphong was third at 5 under after a 77.

Kane finished with a 71 for a three-stroke victory in the 36-hole Legends Tour event. The 51-year-old Canadian had a 1-under 143 total and earned $19,500.

"I knew with the wind, it was going to be tough, and putting was very difficult," Kane said. "I chose not to look at any leaderboards. I wanted to just hit solid shots and give myself as many chances as I could. ... I was thinking about the wins I've had in the past and tried to stay within myself. You can only control what you do."

Jane Crafter and Barb Mucha tied for second, each shooting 74.
