Vehicle crashes into Round Lake Beach building
Nobody was injured when a vehicle crashed into a Round Lake Beach building Sunday afternoon, officials said.
The car was traveling north on Cedar Lake Road at 12:09 p.m. when the driver swerved suddenly to avoid colliding with another vehicle, said Battalion Chief Tony Carraro of the Greater Round Lake Fire Protection District.
The vehicle spun off the road and crashed into the former Altman's Emporium building at the northeast corner of North Cedar Lake Road and West Ferndale Drive.
The crash caused minor structural damage to the building, which has a vacant flower shop on the first floor and apartments upstairs, Carraro said. At least one apartment was occupied at the time of the crash, he said.
A wall, a window and a column holding up an awning were damaged, he said, as were some contents stored on the ground level. Authorities were able to stabilize the structure, and none of the residents were displaced, Carraro said.
