Softball: St. Charles East sweeps Naperville Central
St. Charles East brought out the big bats in Game 1 then relied on the pitching of Delaney Devor in Game 2 to sweep a nonconference softball doubleheader from Naperville Central Saturday, 16-8 and 2-1.
In Game 1, the Saints (11-1) rapped out 16 hits. Kelly Rinker (2B, 2 RBI) and Jordan Hall (2 doubles, RBI) led the way with 3 hits each. Maddie Candre (2B, RBI), Rylee Stout (2B, 2 RBI), Jordan Hieber (2 RBI) and Devor (HR, 3 RB) had 2 hits each and Paige Ligocki added a double and 2 RBI.
Hall picked up the win in the circle with relief help from Devor.
In the second game, Devor allowed just 3 hits as well as adding 2 hits herself with a triple and an RBI. Stout had 3 hits with a double and an RBI and Katie Kolb added a double.
Marist 6, St. Charles North 4: Amanda James was 4-for-4 with a double and an RBI and Jillian Waslawski had 2 hits and an RBI for the North Stars (6-2) in this nonconference loss.
Jacobs drops 2: The Golden Eagles fell to 2-4 as Schaumburg swept a doubleheader by scores of 5-2 and 6-0. In Game 1, Jacobs mustered 3 hits in the shutout as Sarah Murray accounted for 2, including a double. Katie Armstrong suffered the loss in the circle as the Saxons pounded out 18 hits. In Game 2 Jacobs led 2-0 into the sixth until Brittany Feldman ran into some bad luck as she allowed 5 runs in the inning and took the loss. Murray (RBI) and Teaghan Richman (RBI) provided the offense while Kerri Healy tripled.
Dundee-Crown scores 31 in DH: The Chargers (7-7) took two from Waukegan in dominant fashion. Game 1 featured a 5-inning, 16-0 crushing with an 11-spot in the fourth. Offensive leaders for D-C were Hannah Gestrich (2-for-4, 2B), Cady English (HR) and Maddie Pautz, who all had 3 RBI. Claire Weeks and Deanna Origer each had 2 hits and 1 RBI while Pautz pitched a shutout on 4 hits, 9 strikeouts and 1 walk. Game 2 featured 15 runs for D-C on 11 hits as Megan Emerson (2-for-3, 5 RBI) hit a grand slam while English (2-for-3, RBI), Pautz (RBI) and Lleana Fribley (2-for-4, 2 RBI) all doubled. Kayla Sjodin earned the win allowing just 4 hits on 2 walks and 10 strikeouts in 5 innings.
Aurora Christian falls twice: In Northeastern Athletic Conference action, the Eagles (0-6, 0-4) were unable to crack the win column with 13-3 and 23-3 losses. Millie Britt had 3 hits and an RBI in the opener and Ayonna Brown added 2 hits and an RBI. AC had just 3 singles in Game 2.
Glenbard South 10, Geneva 9: Alissa Dierks had a double and 3 RBI for Geneva (8-4) in this nonconference loss. Katelyn Keller, Annika Radabaugh and Kaitlyn Plocinski added doubles for the Vikings.
Huntley 4, Sycamore 0: Tiffany Giese tossed a 1-hitter with 13 strikeouts as Huntley (6-4) won this nonconference game. Jessica Shields had 2 hits and 2 RBI for the Red Raiders while Haley O'Mara added 2 hits with a double and an RBI.
ACC falls twice: Aurora Central Catholic (8-5) lost a nonconference twinbill to Ottawa Marquette, 7-2 and 2-1. Julia Dickerson had 2 hits for the Chargers in the opener while Bridget Butler added a triple and Dani Brown a double. Paige Miller took the loss in the circle. In Game 2, Brown struck out 10 but ACC managed just 5 singles and committed 4 errors.
Marian Central 14, Westminster Christian 0: Drew Randazzo had a double for the Warriors (0-6) in this nonconference loss.
