Baseball: Glenbard West, Hinsdale South, Glenbard East win
Glenbard West 7-5, Downers North 2-6:
Sam Kaske's complete-game effort led Glenbard West (3-9, 2-4) to victory in the West Suburban Silver opener. The Trojans (5-8, 3-2) came back to win the second game in the bottom of the ninth when Brendan Shanahan singled home the winning run.
Hinsdale South 4, Downers South 3:
The Hornets (14-2, 7-0) stayed unbeaten in the West Suburban Gold by scoring all their runs in the third inning. Terrence Cribbs doubled and drove in 2 runs. Frank Basic was the winning pitcher. Corey Vondra, Ben Ficht and Mike Hall had 2 hits for Downers South (6-5, 3-2).
Glenbard East 9, Elgin 1:
Michael Sebby and Richard Masciopinto had 2 hits and Ryan Schefske drove in 2 runs for the Rams (8-5). Winning pitcher Nathan Bertuca struck out four and allowed no earned runs.
St. Francis 4, Fenwick 3:
The Spartans (12-1, 4-1) capped a 5-0 week with the Chicago Catholic League win. Colin Wisted was the winning pitcher while Ryan Hodgett notched the save. Foster Heise, Will Purdom and Brett Whelton all had 2 hits.
Willowbrook 8-2, Morton 1-6:
The Warriors (5-6, 2-1) won Game 1 of the West Suburban Gold doubleheader. Danny Olson went 2-for-3 and Matt Pizur won on the mound as Willowbrook broke open the game with 4 runs in the fourth inning.
Guerin 9-4, Timothy Christian 5-9:
The Trojans (8-4, 5-1) split in the Metro Suburban East by winning Game 2. Noah Marrera went 2-for-4 with 3 RBI while Jimmy Brush went 3-for-4 and Joey Davidson drove in 2 runs. Brian Schiff struck out 13 in 6-plus innings.
