GRASS LAKE, Mich. (AP) - A 1905 Chicago streetcar is being restored as part of efforts to create a new museum in southern Michigan.
Phil Willis of Grass Lake tells the Jackson Citizen Patriot (http://bit.ly/1MxRe87 ) that those involved in the Lost Railway Museum are focusing on the on the history of interurban travel as "a lost era in history." The museum is scheduled to open in 2017.
The museum's showpiece is an electric trolley that was moved to Michigan from Bill and Sharon Krapil's backyard in Weyauwega, Wisconsin.
The Lost Railway Museum group purchased the streetcar for $1 and moved it to Grass Lake. The museum also is working to develop exhibits.
A separate group called Grass Lake Historical Connections also has an interurban streetcar it brought to the area in 2013 and is restoring.
