Kane County Cougars win series finale from Kernels

The Kane County Cougars used some clutch hitting and solid pitching for a 4-1 win over the Cedar Rapids Kernels at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark in Geneva on Wednesday afternoon.

The victory lifted the Cougars to 3-3 on the season as the Kernels fell to 5-2.

Galli Cribbs came through with a two-run single into left field to break a scoreless tie and put the Cougars in control. Cougar starter Taylor Clarke (1-0) struck out 4, pitching six innings and retiring the last 15 batters he faced.

The Cougars got two more runs in the seventh on a Zach Nehrir RBI single and a sacrifice fly from Luke Lowery.

The Cougars begin a four-game road series on Thursday against the Quad Cities River Bandits.
