Indiana courts' online effort nears 10,000 filings

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - State officials say nearly 10,000 electronic court documents have been filed since Indiana began a shift last summer toward statewide e-filing.

Hamilton County just north of Indianapolis began accepting court documents online last July. Indiana's Supreme Court and Court of Appeals followed in November.

The state's Tax Court began accepting e-filings in January, and five counties - Clark, Shelby, Harrison, Madison and Henry - are now accepting e-filings.

State Supreme Court Justice Steven David, who's helping lead the e-filing push, says Indiana is "on the path to statewide implementation" of e-filing in all 92 counties by late 2018.

Electronic filing of all pleadings to pending cases will become mandatory in July for attorneys in all state appellate courts and Hamilton County's circuit and superior courts.
