Four Aurora gas stations OK'd to sell beer and wine
Aurora aldermen approved four liquor licenses allowing package beer and wine sales at gas stations that also operate a convenience store with at least 3,000 square feet of retail space.
The gas stations that qualified for the new license are at 1395 Butterfield Road, 1207 N. Eola Road, 2241 S. Eola Road and 600 Frontenac Road.
Eighth Ward Alderman Rick Mervine, who has two of the approved gas stations in his ward, said it was time to modernize the criteria for gas station convenience stores to sell beer and wine.
City spokesman Alex Voigt said the amendment may keep some Aurorans from driving to other towns to make their gasoline and convenience store purchases.
Additional requirements of the new ordinance are:
• A license shall be granted only to businesses that do not provide video gaming services on the premises.
• Individual cans and bottles of beer may not be sold by license holder; beer must be sold only in six-packs.
• The annual fee for the new license is $1,650.
