Boys water polo: Goehrke, Patel pace Conant's win over Barrington
Conant's boys water polo team knocked Barrington out of its share of the Mid-Suburban West lead on Wednesday with a 7-6 victory over the Broncos.
Tyler Goehrke (4 goals) and Mihir Patel (2) did the bulk of the damage for coach Tim Daniel's team, which pulled into a second-place tie West with Barrington at 5-2 in the division.
Conant improved to 8-7 overall, while Barrington dropped to 13-3.
Fremd 18, Palatine 8: The Vikings are the MSL West's leader after a decisive win over the Pirates. Fremd improved to 12-4 overall and 6-1 in the division and has a 1-game lead over Barrington and Conant.
Palatine (5-10, 3-4) honored seniors Ivan Turkan, Marcus Carter-Buckman, Jake Conrad, Adam Smith and Alex Adame before the game.
Buffalo Grove 9, Elk Grove 7: The host Grens had taken a 7-6 lead after the third quarter before the Bison finished the game with a 3-0 edge in the fourth in MSL East play.
Kevin Carr paced Buffalo Grove with 3 goals, and Eid Shahatit and Dan Korol had 2 apiece.
David Dragne led the way for the Grens with 4 goals.
Schaumburg 21, Hoffman Estates 7: Schaumburg senior Tyler Gustafson had 7 goals, and Hoffman Estates senior George Isaac had all the scoring for the Hawks in MSL West play.
St. Viator 11, Mt. Carmel 5: Junior Stephen Battin led the way with 5 scores and senior Dante Cerone had 2 while junior goalie Tim Bansfield made 5 saves as the Lions improved to 4-12 overall and 3-6 in the MCAC.
