Bulldogs Masters Tournament

Coinciding with Professional Golf's Masters Tournament from this past weekend, St. James upper level P.E. classes learned about and practiced the sport in their classes.

Students learned about the function of the various clubs and golfing equipment. They studied proper grips, stances, and swings for irons and woods. The boys and girls practiced a range of shots including pitching, chipping, sand shots, as well as putting.

This inter-curricular unit also incorporated math skills as well as students determined the angles on their clubs and the distances their balls traveled.

Additionally, students acquired the various courtesies associated with golf along with learning and interpreting many of the rules which can be so intricate with this sport.

On Masters Day, students participated in a tourney that included 4 holes with water hazards, roughs, and sand traps. Having an opportunity to conclude their lessons by participating in this tournament provided enjoyable real world skill development. Although Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus were not present, as is done at the course in Augusta, the winners were presented with green jackets and prize checks!
