BACOA offers Healthy Aging series

With socialization a critical component to aging well, the Barrington Area Council on Aging co-sponsors a healthy aging senior lunch and activity series for older adults with the Barrington Park District.

The Senior Lunch & Activity Program provides lunch and activities at the Barrington Park District, 235 Lions Drive, Barrington. Doors open at 10:30 a.m.; bingo and other activities begin at 11; lunch is served at noon.

Monday lunch program cost is $6. Preregistration and prepayment is required; call (847) 881-0477.

• Monday, May 2: Annual Spring Fling. Sponsored by the Barrington Junior Women's club, this special complimentary luncheon comes with festive music, bingo and prizes. Registration deadline is April 27.

• Monday, May 9: Council on Aging social service coordinators Sue McNamara and Bonnie Scherkenbach lead "Brain Games," with Home Instead Senior Care of Cary checking blood pressures.

• Monday, May 16: Older Americans Month luncheon. Special entertainment by singer and musician Rick Pickren is sponsored by Eastgate Manor of Algonquin. Registration deadline is May 11.

• Monday, May 23: Celebrate Cinco de Mayo along with all May birthdays at this special luncheon. The May birthday celebration with cake and ice cream is sponsored by Rosewood Care Center of Inverness. Cost is $7. Reservation deadline is May 18.

• Monday, May 30: Memorial Day. There will be no program.

• Monday, June 6: Regular program resumes.

• Monday, June 13: Flag Day Celebration. In recognition of Flag Day, wear red, white and blue. Members of American Legion Post No. 158 will provide and serve lunch. Home Instead Senior Care of Cary checks blood pressures. Reservation deadline is June 8.

• Monday, June 20: Games and cards will be played after lunch until 2:15 p.m.

• Monday, June 27: Welcome to Summer! The luncheon will include cake and ice cream in celebration of all June birthdays. The June birthday celebration is sponsored by Rosewood Care Center of Inverness. Lunch cost is $7. Reservation deadline is June 22.
