Memorial service planned for health advocate Quentin Young

CHICAGO (AP) - A Chicago memorial service has been planned for health advocate Dr. Quentin Young, who died last month at age 92.

Margie Schaps of Health & Medicine Policy Research Group announced the memorial is scheduled for May 22 at 3 p.m. at KAM Isaiah Israel Congregation in Chicago. A reception will follow at 5 p.m.

Young founded Health & Medicine Policy Research Group. He was a past president of the American Public Health Association and Physicians for a National Health Program.

The Chicago native worked to desegregate Chicago hospitals in the 1950s and marched with civil rights workers in the 1960s. Young served as personal physician to Chicago Mayor Harold Washington and author Studs Terkel. He was former Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn's doctor, adviser and friend.
