Barrington shooting called an 'isolated incident'

Barrington police said Monday a shooting that left two people injured early Sunday morning just north of the village's downtown is an isolated incident and there is no threat to the public's safety. Police offered no other details regarding the identity of the shooting victims, the nature of their injuries, the circumstances of the shooting and its possible connection to a car crash Sunday near the shooting scene. U-46 adopts full-day kindergarten curriculum, resources

Elgin schools officials Monday night approved the curriculum and resources for implementing full-day kindergarten districtwide this fall, with some dissension. The Elgin Area School District U-46 school board voted 5-2 in favor of the proposal. Full story.

Two firefighters hurt battling Lake in the Hills blaze

Two firefighters were injured Monday afternoon fighting a blaze in a townhouse in Lake in the Hills, fire officials said. Firefighters were called at 1:35 p.m. to the two-story building on the 0-100 block of West Acorn and arrived to find smoke showing from the roof and a small fire in the rear of the house, Algonquin-Lake in the Hills fire officials said in a news release. Fox Lake school bus in fender-bender

A fender-bender between a Fox Lake school bus and an SUV in Spring Grove Monday afternoon delayed students from returning home, fire officials said. Nobody was injured in the minor crash that happened at 3:30 p.m. near the intersection of Sixth Street and Rowe Avenue, Fox Lake Capt. Brent Connelly said. Full story.
