Illinois State University gets planetarium upgrade
NORMAL, Ill. (AP) - The planetarium at an Illinois college has upgraded its decades-old video projection system.
The Pantagraph (http://bit.ly/1N4Merv) reports Illinois State University planetarium now has a new system to project video programs on to its 30-foot-diameter dome.
Illinois State received the money for the upgrade worth tens of thousands of dollars from a competitive grant.
Planetarium leaders say they hope to also get new seating and a museum-quality star projector.
The school planetarium will screen its new show "Back to the Moon for Good" through the end of this month. The film addresses the past and future of lunar exploration.
Planetarium director Thomas Willmitch says the facility is meant to get people excited about science. College classes are held at the planetarium and about 4,000 youth attend programs there annually.
