Girls water polo: Fremd grabs lead in Mid-Suburban West
Fremd picked up a key win in Mid-Suburban West girls water polo play, topping visiting Barrington 7-2 Monday to break a first-place tie in the division between the teams.
Paulina Pappas (4 goals) and Becca Rutkowski (2) led the scoring effort for Fremd (12-3, 5-1), which got a 19-save performance from goalie Emma Jeronimus.
Isabella Rojas and Mia Latimer had the goals and goalie Ellie Connors stopped 8 shots for the Fillies (10-2, 4-2), who slipped into a three-way tied for second-place tie in the division with Conant and Palatine.
Elk Grove 6, Wheeling 5: The Grens got 2 goals apiece from Alyssa Rosenorn, Lindsey Hendren and Lilly Lawrin to picked up an MSL East victory.
Rosenorn also contributed 4 steals while Kaylee Hatfield and Hannah Sallenback both had 3 and goalie Jessica Deering stopped 13 shots for Elk Grove (4-8, 2-4).
Adrienne Rozmus paced Wheeling (0-11, 0-6) with 3 goals.
Conant 4, Schaumburg 2: Nia Tsoulos scored 3 goals and Hannah Lukas 1 to help the Cougars prevail in a defensive MSL West battle. Cam Rosas made 12 stops and generated 3 steals for the Cougars 11-5, 4-2).
Palatine 8, Hoffman Estates 1: Seniors Mathilde Mogensen, Kristin Anderson and Tess O'Brien each scored 2 goals, and O'Brien made 8 saves without allowing any damage during her stint as goalie as the visiting Pirates (8-8, 4-2) earned an MSL West victory.
Francia Morales-Diaz had the goal for Hoffman Estates (6-9, 0-6).
Meadows 10, St. Viator 1: Lizzie Hardt scored 6 goals and Maggie Goodwin 2 while goalie Betsy Zanocco stopped 13 shots as the Mustangs (10-4) won decisively in nonconference play.
