Auto parts maker to invest $33.5M in Indiana, add 80 jobs

HUNTINGTON, Ind. (AP) - A Michigan-based auto parts manufacturer has announced plans to invest $33.5 million to expand operations in its northeastern Indiana plant and create up to 80 new jobs by 2020.

Continental Structural Plastics Inc. announced plans Monday to build a 130,000-square-foot factory next to its existing 210,000-square-foot facility in Huntington, 25 miles southwest of Fort Wayne. The company specializes in making lightweight parts.

Construction is expected to begin in June and the company plans to have the plant in operation by late next year.

Huntington Mayor Brooks Fetters says the community is honored to be selected. United Technologies Electronic Controls announced recently it was closing its factory in Huntington that employed 700 and moving the work to Mexico.
