Dean Street to be closed April 12

Kane County's efforts to add flashing-yellow arrows to Randall Road intersections moves to Dean Street in St. Charles, starting Tuesday, April 12.

To provide minimal traffic disruption, the work will require closure of Dean Street from 8 a.m. to about 4 p.m. Tuesday.

Randall Road through traffic will be allowed to continue without stopping at the intersection while the traffic signals are being worked on during the above-mentioned work period.

Motorists traveling north on Randall Road will only be allowed to access Dean Street eastbound from the northbound right-turn lane. Motorists traveling southbound on Randall Road will not be able to access Dean Street during the above-mentioned work period.

Motorists are advised to use North 15th Street, Peck Road, and Route 64 as alternate routes for east/west travel. For north/south alternate routes and access to retail areas along Randall Road, motorists are advised to use the alternate routes.

Pay close attention and provide adequate time to modified access routes to businesses along Randall Road at Dean Street. Access to the retail buildings east of Randall Road at Dean Street will be allowed by right turn only from northbound Randall Road. There will be no access to Randall Road from Dean Street.

Changeable message boards will be placed in several locations to provide advance warning to motorists of the intersection closing.

On the day of an intersection closure, the process will include:

• Setting up barricades, cones, and traffic control to prevent access to the side streets.

• Placement new wiring and equipment on the mast arms.

• Adjustment of the wiring in the Traffic Controller Cabinet.

• Testing of the new equipment.

• Removal of existing mast arms and equipment.

Temporary lane closures along Randall Road will be required to accomplish this work. Watch for flaggers and workers while traveling through the construction zone. Motorists should expect delays, increased travel times during the process, and are advised to consider alternate routes during this work.

Upon completion of the work at Dean Street, the new traffic signals will include a Flashing Yellow Left Turn Arrow. This flashing yellow arrow will allow motorists to turn left after yielding to oncoming traffic and pedestrians. Traffic waiting to turn left will receive the protected left turn with a green arrow while oncoming traffic has a red light.

While both directions of through traffic have a green light, motorists waiting to turn left will receive the flashing yellow arrow indicating that they may turn only when it is safe to do so.
