Baseball: Lutze no-hitter leads Aurora Christian to split

Aurora Christian's baseball team traveled south Saturday and split a pair of games played in downstate Harrisburg.

The Eagles started the day with a 5-0 win over Beardstown as RD Lutze tossed a complete game no-hitter with 11 strikeouts and 2 walks. Lutze also hit a home run and had 2 RBI in the victory. Jacob Brothers added a double and an RBI for the Eagles while Jacob Daley and Eric Hernandez each had RBI.

Aurora Christian then lost for the first time this season, falling to Harrisburg 7-3. Daley had a double and an RBI for the Eagles (5-1) while Drew Henning and MJ Stavola also drove in runs. Brothers took the loss on the mound.

St. Edward 5, Indian Creek 4: Tyler Holte went 3-for-4 with a double and Joe Esposito had a double and 2 RBI to lead the Green Wave (2-6) to a nonconference win. Matthew Schimbke added 2 hits with a double and an RBI and Karl Bibler had 2 hits for St. Edward. Nolan Theriault picked up the pitching win in relief with Holte earning the save.

Harvest Christian falls twice: The Lions lost a nonconference doubleheader at Clinton, falling 6-4 and 2-1. In Game 1, Drew Lewis went 2-for-4 with a double and 3 RBI. Chad Jakel suffered the loss on the mound. In Game 2, Lewis had a double and an RBI for the Lions (5-5), who had only 2 hits in the game. Lewis also suffered the loss on the mound, despite allowing just 5 hits.

ICCP 10, Westminster Christian 1: Tyler Schoemann and Theron Dorsey each had 2 doubles for Westminster (3-8) in this nonconference loss.

Elgin Academy sweeps: Ian Wilson threw a five-inning no-hitter with 6 strikeouts and no walks in Game 2 of a nonconference doubleheader as the Hilltoppers (7-3) won 9-0. They also won the opener 8-3. In the nightcap, Justin King and Jonathan Cruz each tripled and Andrew Wilson had a double for EA. In Game 1, Cruz tripled, Andrew Wilson doubled and Henry Stone was the winning pitcher.
