Lawyer: IUPUI student labeled 'terrorist' over activism

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - A lawyer for a Muslim student at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis says his client was targeted with derogatory flyers calling her a "terrorist" for her activism in support of Palestine.

The Indianapolis Star reports (http://indy.st/1oLFfbA ) that lawyer Rahul Saksena recently warned school officials that the Muslim woman could file a formal complaint with the U.S. Department of Education if she feels the school has not responded appropriately.

The woman, who was not identified, says the derogatory flyers were recently put up across campus and targeted her for being involved with the group Students for Justice in Palestine. She says blog postings have also denigrated her appearance, called her a terrorist and a national security threat.

The school says authorities are investigating the incident, but declined to release further information.
